CANR Town Hall with Delaware Department of Transportation
The students, faculty, and staff of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, along with many others in the UD and local community, recently prepared and submitted a petition (1000+ signatures) to the Delaware Department of Transportation requesting traffic safety improvements at the Webb Farm intersection on Route 72.
In response to our requests, Tom Meyer, Traffic Studies Manager, at DelDOT, will be here to discuss the options for improving traffic safety at this intersection this Thursday, May 28, at 3 pm in Room 132 Townsend Hall.
All students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in this Town Hall meeting with DelDOT.

Scholarship for New Jersey Residents
The objective of the scholarship is to acknowledge students for their academic and personal accomplishments in the field of conservation and/or natural resources.
ELIGIBILITY
The applicant must:
1. be a full-time student in good standing at any New Jersey accredited university/college, or a resident of New Jersey attending any accredited out-of-state university/college; and
2. have successfully completed, or will complete by the award date, at least two semesters of study; and
3. be an undergraduate enrolled in a curriculum related to natural resources including but not limited to: agriculture, agronomy, conservation, ecology, environmental science, fisheries, forestry, geography, journalism, plant science, soil science, and/or wildlife. Other areas related to conservation may also qualify.
AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP
A $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded in memory of Edward R. Hall and Robert R. Hanna.

Become an Americorps Volunteer Coordinator for the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance
The Nanticoke Watershed Alliance is seeking an outgoing and enthusiastic candidate
to help to administer and further develop our volunteer programs, including our Nanticoke
Creekwatchers Citizen Monitoring Program, shoreline cleanups/ restoration, oyster restoration, and educational and outreach activities.
This is an 11 month, full-time AmeriCorps position with the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, with thepossibility of continued employment in our organization after AmeriCorps year of service. The service year will begin on September 16, 2009 and conclude on August 3, 2010.
Full-time VMCs receive a living stipend of $13,000, an education award of $4,725, and health insurance if they are not already covered. They may also qualify for a child care allowance. Other benefits include student loan deferment, professional training, valuable networking opportunities, working with a dedicated team of AmeriCorps members and staff, and making a real difference in a local community. Coordinators also receive mileage reimbursement for work-related travel.

ESLC Seeks Education/Event Coordinator for Internship
Eastern Shore Land Conservancy seeks an energetic, creative, highly organized individual who pays close attention to detail and can meet various deadlines to work as an education/event coordinator. This individual will help ESLC to develop educational activities for ages K-12 including website content, kids displays and activities, and help plan ESLC’s 6th annual Rural Heritage Day, a festival-style event created to generate awareness and gain support for the Eastern Shore as a rural gem; and to celebrate its past, present and, hopefully, bright agricultural future.
The Intern will work part-time from June –December to help ESLC’s Director of Communications develop the ESLC Working with Kids program. The candidate will helping coordinate an essay/art contest for K-8 age children, develop ideas for the ESLC’s Kids portion of the eslc.org website and develop the format for ESLC’s Rural Heritage Day event. Writing Fellows Program Application Due May 20th
As part of its efforts to support the teaching of writing, the UD Writing Center trains undergraduate writing fellows to assist full time faculty members with the instruction of writing in courses throughout the University curriculum. The support offered by writing fellows includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:
Helping students understand writing assignments Workshopping thesis statements Advising on drafts prior to paper submission Facilitating student writing groups Assisting with in-class workshops
Each fellow will spend up to twenty hours during the semester consulting with the students and faculty member from their assigned class. Fellow availability is limited and will be awarded on a competitive basis as described in the attached call for participants.
